@lqtang it was one of the first places where I got to see a lot of different kinds of AsAmness and where I started to notice the enclave or token dichotomy of experience, good times
@lqtang yeah when I hung out at caltech a lot, demographics skewed asian but asians from all over the US, and typically if they were from texas, it was austin or plano
@lqtang though plano seems northeast, my other guess would be austin
@lqtang also lmao don’t tell me you’re from plano, nearly every chinese person from texas I know is from there
@lqtang yeah I was in gifted & talented but my dad would aggressively tutor me math at home bc he was convinced my public school teachers wouldn’t do a good job; it got to where my teachers would tell him to stop tutoring me at home bc I was too ahead of other kids… proving his point
@lqtang from tutoring at home or from a school system? I’m pretty sure my dad taught me this because public school multiplication tables were 死記硬背 for me
the first time you make a mistake, it’s not a mistake, it’s a learning opportunity—if you don’t learn from it and keep doing it wrong, THEN you’re making mistakes
@kourge @alexandrinacleo yes same! I mean, 9 being divisible by 3, I think there’s an underlying… number architecture? (have never formally studied math so I know no terms) there, 9 just has extra properties given that it’s 3 * 3 itself
