also omfg I finally looked up the actual characters for sun yat-sen’s name and THAT IS THE MOST FUCKING INCREDIBLE NAME I’VE SEEN, imagine being named ESCAPE OF THE IMMORTALS

I find it fascinating how my chinese name is extremely feminine, but I share the individual characters with mixed genders—I’ve only met women with 秋 qiū ‘autumn’ in their names, and I’ve only met men with 逸 yì ‘escape, grace’ in their names (a friend named 逸達 and ofc 孫逸仙)

THISSSSS, as a linguist especially my experience is that the vast majority of people do not even realize what they sound like when they talk, as if you do a close transcription including “um”s, corrections, and digressions, people often get upset, thinking they don’t speak well!! t.co/z987mv0Han
