Reflection Paper #1

In the first month or so of our class, we have explored a number of ways in which technology has altered our social relationships—Facebook has changed our definition of “friend”; texting has provided us with a means of nonconfrontational, delayed communication. We send e-mails now instead of writing letters; we expect instant gratification for whatever desire for information or communication that we may have. While we have had a number of interesting discussions and have begun wading into interesting concepts, at times, it feels as if there is so much more to cover than we do cover, and that our discussions tend to be highly anecdotal and do not delve into the deeper issues that underlie this topic.

We have discussed the notion of having online relationships that change to offline relationships, but we still have not discussed online relationships as a whole in much depth. …
